In Dire Need Comeback/Last Show 1/9/10

Posted in Shows on January 12, 2010 by mikeporreca

In Dire Need was a big local legend. They broke up a while back after their tour kickoff show which I was kinda mad about, but they got back for one last show. This is because their good friend, along with a friend of every other band there, was robbed brutally. I only really saw All Hands On Deck, Life On Hold, xStars Fell Onx, and In Dire Need. There were other bands but I took many BK runs. The best part of it was it was all a ton of local kids having fun, and it was for a good cause. I got hit and didn’t even really get mad. It was a pretty decent show.

Thirsty Fest 5

Posted in Shows on January 7, 2010 by mikeporreca

On January 2nd, I went to Alpine Grove in Hollis, New Hampshire. It was this year’s Thirsty Fest, sponsored by I’m Thirsty Entertainment[ITE]. It featured just about every local band from the area, along with some bigger local bands. These bands were Armor For The Broken, Lions Lions, Therefore I Am, A Loss For Words, and Vanna. There was rumored to be a secret headliner, either Four Year Strong or Our Last Night, but it never happened. I saw one of the members of Four Year Strong though, and I talked with him a bit. I also talked to the singers of Therefore I Am and A Loss For Words. The singer from A Loss For Words has Jason Voorhees tattooed on his arm, and I’ve wanted that since middle school. He handed me the mic every time he saw me jumping on kid’s shoulders. I got more pictures on www.returntothepit.com from Vanna, of course. I go to far too many Vanna shows. I skipped going to see Trapped Under Ice, Cruel Hand, and Down To Nothing in Haverhill that night. It was an all around good day, I had my friends, my music, and cheap food all day.

Four Year Strong Holiday Show, 12/27/09

Posted in Shows on January 7, 2010 by mikeporreca

I forgot that I even had this blog. Over the Christmas vacation, I went to two shows. First, on December 27th, I went to the Four Year Strong Holiday Show. It consisted of Beyond City Lights, Smartbomb, Therefore I Am, Bane, and Four Year Strong(obviously). I mainly went to see Bane after my whole Edge Day experience, having to stand on the balcony and watch the last two bands plus a couple hundred kids having the time of their lives. I sat out for Four Year Strong though, since the whole crowd was meatheads and fourteen year old scene girls. I was getting claustrophobic too.

Lyric of the Day

Posted in Lyrics on December 18, 2009 by mikeporreca

“Why should I love a world that won’t love me back?”

I decided every now and again I’m going to post the “Lyrics of the Day”. This is a line from the song Heated by Shipwreck. It’s a negative hardcore song so of course the lyric is sort of negative. I can relate to it lately because things haven’t been so great, and I’ve tried to be real good but it seems like it’s meaningless.

Crazy Looking iPod Deck

I found another pretty cool thing. It’s just a regular iPod deck, only it looks like it’s from space. It will sell for $149.95

Gibson Robot Guitar

Posted in School on December 16, 2009 by mikeporreca

I figured this would be pretty gnarly to post, seeing as how it’s about school and about music. The gadget is the Gibson Robot Guitar. You can get them in either Les Paul Studio or SG Studio models. All you need to do is play it. The head of the guitar holds a CPU, and near the bottom bridge holds a tuning bridge. Next to the volume knobs, there is a knob that adjusts the tuning. You just simply select the tuning and it tunes itself perfectly. Not only does it tune itself, but it looks boss. It sells for about $3,599.

World’s Thinnest Hard Drive

Posted in School on December 16, 2009 by mikeporreca

I found this crazy thing online just now. It’s this HDD for laptops. The thing is though, this is a lot thinner than your normal HDD. It is 7mm thick. That’s 2.5mm thinner than your normal HDD for laptops.  It is being offered for 250GB and 160GB of space. It capacities 8MB cache, and it will be shipped in January 2010. It will spin at 5,400RPM, making it have magnificent performance.

Show at Rocko’s 11/7

Posted in Shows on November 8, 2009 by mikeporreca

Energy, Lions Lions, Late Nite Wars, and The Wonder Years played tonight, along with some smaller bands. Energy dropped because the singer got sick, and Lions Lions didn’t play Rescue but you know what? I can deal. It was an excellent show. Only two fights this time. In between every band while another band was setting up, they played Bane. I never even knew Bane had that much music, and I’m probably not listening to them for days or weeks. It was a pretty good show, even though I left before The Wonder Years.

The Atticus Tour

Posted in Shows on October 31, 2009 by mikeporreca

I figured I should use this as an opportunity to use this blog. October 29th was the Atticus Tour, sponsored by Atticus clothing. It featured Finch, blessthefall, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Vanna on select dates, Of Mice and Men on select dates, and Let’s Get It. I got there during some of the local performances. I missed The Venetia Fair, but I saw Shot Heard Around The World and The Wake Up Call. All of the bands put on great sets. It was in a hall that probably hosts wedding receptions, only they built a stage. I did some gnarly stage dives. Pretty much everybody left for Finch. It was a great show. I met Beau Bokan from blessthefall as well.
